Barn Building – Steelwork

3 days in Dec 17/Jan 18 helping my brother assemble the structural steelwork for the barn. He had spent the time since my previous visit completing the welding of all the roof trusses, so we just needed to lift them up and bolt them into position – no problem!

Exept that they are huge and very very heavy and have to be lifted a long way up. Chris had designed and built a jib for the JCB in order to extend the digging arm to get enough reach and lift, but it was on the limit. And the hydraulic system had a slow leak which meant that the truss couldn’t be held at the right height but had to be continuosly lifted to avoid sagging. Very muddy underfoot as well.
